BORYAD (Turkish Shareholders Association) is the first and only civil organization in Turkey, defending shareholder rights and promoting investment in stock market. BORYAD was founded in 2001 and based in Istanbul Turkey. We have nearly 50.000 members and organize many activities. 

Legal Actions

BORYAD has faced many legal situations where shareholders were unjustly treated ever since its establishment. With the help of our lawyers and legal counselors, we provided our members consultancy services. BORYAD assisted more than 2.000 members to file their lawsuits. On the other hand, the association holds a share in all listed companies. And as ashareholder, we use our rights to file lawsuits against all the actions  that could damage the minority shareholders. 

Annual General Meetings (AGM)

BORYAD participates in annual general meetings of listed companies, votes as a shareholder and expresses the views of shareholders. We also reject the clauses that could result a possible damage for shareholders. If necessary, we can file a lawsuit for the cancellation of the general assembly. In the future, the association is planning proxy voting on behalf of its members and representing shareholders in board of directors. 

Investor Education

The association conducted many training programs in past years to eliminate unconsciousness, which is a major factor in shareholder grievance. Besides training  activities, we organize conferences and publish articles on our web site which are aimed to inform and educate shareholders. Our new magazine is another step to diminish unconsciousness of our members. 

The Voice of Shareholders

BORYAD undertakes the role of the voice of shareholders by expressing its views on the media on the developments of capital markets and the opportunities or problems it can create. Hundreds of these views were included in national newspapers, magazinesand televisions. The association also joins certain research groups and meeting to express its views on regulations done by the Turkish National Assembly or the governing body. 

Researches

The association conducts researches to help the development of capital markets and announces them to the public. To this date many researches were done on topics such as the development of the Istanbul Stock Exchange, fund industry and public offerings Also it expresses its views to necessary institutions during legal regulations. 

International Activities

BORYAD became a member of Euroshareholders in 2004. This helps our country’s efforts to join European Union and also inform EU about the problems of the Turkish shareholders. We communicate with foreign corporate shareholders and exchange our views about annual general meetings. We act together in the voting process to correct the legal issues concerning minority shareholders rights. BORYAD also participates in AGMs of international companies (in their home country) who merged into or acquired another firm in Turkey. We express our views and criticize the companies’ actions damaging the minority shareholders in Turkey. We also point our views about draft EU directives in Euroshareholders
